CULTUREFLY MELTZ –Halloween Series 1
“Sweet like a snack, but sculpted to last!”
by S.C.
Full Set Collected and Photographed. All nine figures — including both mystery chases — are shown here as a complete lineup.
When’s the last time you saw a collectible like this that actually made you feel something? When I saw these there was something that was instantly familiar about them. I knew from day one I needed the full set. Not too long ago I was talking to my family and friends about how the Halloween trinkets and toys of today—besides feeling like not much effort is put into them—just don’t hit the way they used to. Things like seasonal Pez dispensers, which used to be sculpted, now a lot of the time just have designs printed onto basic shapes. But you can tell these were sculpted and made with love by someone who knew all the Halloween deep cuts.
This series doesn’t just feel like a tribute. They feel like something that actually existed.
The figures in Halloween Series 1 are sculpted in shapes that are all homages to the many things that remind and make the holiday for us at its core. They come complete with a melted base (like they’ve been left out a little too long), gumball-style eyes, and each one has a bite taken out. When I see them I think Beistle, AVON catalog decorations. They brought back memories of elementary school parties, and the decorations the teachers would put up every year for us. Even the packaging, designed by Bruckaroni, leans beautifully into that exact era.
Here’s my breakdown of the full set (chases included) with thoughts on what makes each one feel like it’s straight out of your childhood freezer.
Pumpkin
This one’s tied for the top of my list. It’s the perfect blend of nostalgia and design. It has the classic jack-o’-lantern face, bold silhouette, and that rad bright orange tone. It reminded me of a mix of the classic Halloween candy buckets of Halloween die cut decoration.
Flavor I Imagine It To Be: Pumpkin pie ice cream bar with a caramel flavored shell.
Bat
This one definitely has a ton of personality. The frowning eyes and fangs showing definitely give it that “cartoon Dracula” vibe. It’s a little creepy, and a little goofy but totally feels like something straight out of the ice cream aisle of my childhood. It reminds me of the old Wall’s Dracula Ice Lolly’s from the UK (80s) just with a 90s twist.
Flavor I Imagine It To Be: Classic fudgesicle with cherry gumball eyes.
Cat
This one reminded me right away of all of the vintage AVON Halloween designs. This one is unmistakably Halloween. All the colors on this one go so well together. I love its facial expression as well. Is it meowing or hissing? The purple gumball eyes stand out beautifully against the lime green eyes.
Flavor I Imagine It To Be: Artificial grape, like freezer pops or those old purple drinks that came in the little barrel shaped containers.
Skull
From the cracked head to the melty base and red gumball eyes, it’s exactly what you’d expect to find in a bag of spooky treats from the dollar store in 1991. It definitely reminded me of those old bendy skull figures you’d see so much back in the day.
Flavor I Imagine It To Be: Lemon with Cherry Gumball Eyes. It’s that punchy and sour flavor that starts melting the second you open the wrapper.
Candy Corn
This one is the most nostalgic of the bunch for me. I loved candy corn when I was little and could never get enough of it. It’s a flavor and a scent I’ve never forgotten and one that’ll always be tied to Halloween memories for me. This one definitely hits the hardest if you grew up loving it the way I did.
Flavor I Imagine It To Be: Candy corn, obviously! It’s sugary, creamy, and completely unmistakable.
Ghost
The simple design for this one works in its favor. It reminded me of the old Beistle Ghost decorations we would put up in the house every year. Its got that timeless Halloween look.
Flavor I Imagine It To Be: Classic Bubblegum. Sweet and Chalky just like those gums at the bottom of your Halloween bucket.
Witch
The exaggerated features, green skin, and purple accents give it that “storybook halloween witch” feel. This is the kind of witch imagery we grew up with and were terrified of. Honestly I love it even more for that.
Flavor I Imagine It To Be: Sour green apple with caramel flavored gumballs.
Ghost (Chase Variant)
A very cool chase for the ghost. Same mold, just different colors. The lighter blue gives it a more haunting and spectral look. I love the use of transparent vinyl transitioning into the solid white. The blue glow is a wonderful touch as well.
Flavor I Imagine It To Be: Lemon Creamsicle with fizzing vanilla gumballs.
Skull (Chase Variant)
I love the icy blue color they chose to go with for this chase. . It reminded me of my favorite Ice Blue Gameboy Pocket. The spectral blue glow to it just made it even better.
Flavor I Imagine It To Be: Sour blue raspberry with fizzing blueberry gumballs. Intense and a little shocking but in the best way.
Sweet but Don’t Eat!
The Meltz brought back that feeling of walking down the freezer aisle at Pathmark in the ’90s, trying to pick between a flintstones push pops, or those shark shaped ice pops. I already know these won’t just be out for Halloween—they’ll be displayed all year long. And if we ever get Christmas ones? I’ll be hunting those down too.
Additional Info
MSRP was $14.99 per blind-bag figure, but I was able to use 20% off Spirit coupons.
As of this post, Halloween Series 1 appears to be sold out online. Some Halloween Meltz are still floating around on resale platforms, but often at higher prices due to limited availability.
